First Baptist Church of Inverness certified Dementia Friendly

Forty members of the congregation of the First Baptist Church of Inverness, located at 550 Pleasant Grove Road, have completed training to qualify the church to become certified as Dementia Friendly. The training, conducted by Debbie Selsavage, President of Coping with Dementia LLC, took place on March 28 at a meeting of The Prime Timers, the church’s senior adult ministry.

The training also included a presentation by Katrina Butler of Meridien Research about the status of Alzheimer’s medical research and clinical trials. Meridien, located in Brooksville, Florida, offers free screening to individuals concerned about Alzheimer’s and dementia.

About the certification, Pastor Byron Brown states, “Our church supports a wide range of ministries, and becoming certified as Dementia Friendly is consistent with our mission and our desire to reach out to every segment of the community that we can help.” First Baptist is the eighth church in Citrus County to earn Dementia Friendly certification.

With a congregation of more than 700, First Baptist Church of Inverness has served the community since 1902. For more information about FBC, call 352-726-1252.
